I've been playing for two years and I got my first Dye Kit (self-bought) only around a few weeks ago. Don't think of it as a sign of bad luck if you can't afford one straight away - and as all Dye Kits cost differently, you'll have to make your mind up first so you can set a goal for yourself.

As for items and pets, just wait awhile - Halloween is coming, however far away, and the Goody Bags will be worth a lot after Halloween's over. Just wait, and take your time. Play games and just try new things out. Of course you won't get anything straight away in just two months. :)
