this is a place where you can give ideahs to stop the oil leak. please post ideas!

well my idea is that they shoul set fire to the oil that washes up on the beach. or put straw in the ocean to suck up the oil.

they cant burn it because it's too spread out now, but i'm not sure aboout the straw.

The problem is because it's so far underwater they can't get down there to stop it.

I'm an ecologist- in- training, and I've no idea what to do about the oil spill, but I think it's the worst envionmental disaster. When I saw on the news that it was fixed, I threw a party. The night after, the ancor woman tells me that nope, they won't have it fixed 'till Augest. I was so mad...

Anyway, if the oil was set on fire, how would the g*censored*es effect the ozone la
yer or the animals caught below the surface? It might be a good research topic, but I'm really tired right now. And I like the straw idea, actually, but where would we get it all? That's alot of straw, even if it had some help. So that leaves me to the question: Does straw sink? When it soaks up water, it tends to stay near the surface, but isn't oil dencer than water? Hm....

Anyway, keep this thread going and keep bringing in new ideas, please. I think it's great that you started this, Bella!

Oil separates above water due to it's lower density. ;3

Straw is just dried gr*censored*.  We have plenty of that.

Anyways, this genious girl came up with this idea of stuffing tires in the pipe to clog it and then replacing the shell of it.  They might try it, along with the straw thing.

There are people using giant tubes of straw and human hair to absorb the oil. It works fine, but no body will pay to put more of theses tube- things in hte water, so it's not really doing anything at the moment. The tire situation will probably be the same. The US is in so much debt, we can hardly feed ourselves. Nobody's paying to help stop it and nobody will do it for free. That's why this hasn't been stopped yet.

Also, word had spread now that not only is there the m*censored*ive leak, but also a smaller one and a natural one, and the Gulf is more poluted than ever because of it. The US gov claims that once the "problem is solved" the gulf will be cleaner than it ever has been because "all these comunities will come together" in order to clean it. (Maybe I'm too libberal for my own good, but I think the staement's BS.) Anyway, just keeping ya' updated in case you didn't hear.
