OKAY. So for those of you who play the games you probably know that HG and SS were released very recently. 83 -super excited-
I'm trying to get a shiny starter. I don't really care which starter it is. I'm SRing (soft resetting) to get it. Here's my question:
-
Obviously I'm saving the game before I try to get a shiny, so I can SR over and over. But just how far in am I allowed to save before the starter's colour and gender are set in stone?
I saved just in front of Elm's lab but it's annoying to have to go through that whole speech of his every time. Can I save after he's done talking or would that be too late?
-
^^; I know I'm a bit insane to SR for a shiny starter. I got a shiny Piplup in Pearl by accident, so you can see the origin of my determination. o3o
And no I won't just cheat for it, even though I can. ;/
Thank you for any help you can offer!

From what I know, right when you choose your pokemon is when it's set in stone... So you'd have to save sometime before he allows you to pick. I don't have the game yet, so I can't tell you exactly, but this is from past experience of trying to get a shiny/female starter. If he gives it to you during the speech, then you have to save before the speech. The pokemon's gender and color is set in stone once you pick it up. Hopefully this applies to HG SS as well. ^_^;

I'll try that, Uwi. :3 If that's the case in most games it should work for HG and SS too. It will save me alot of trouble, since you get to choose it after his speech.
Thanks so much! <3

I just ran a quick test, and it is indeed true that nothing is quite set until the moment you see the Pokémon choices. :3 Yay! Thanks again Uwi.

I have horrible luck with shinies, which is why I was shocked when I got a shiny Piplup for a starter in Pearl. xD Legit. I mean, I was just trying to get a female.
'Tis true, Silver. x3 Although I never managed to catch any shiny Pokémon in my Gen. 2 games.

I never had shiny in Pokémon games. ;___; Or had I? I was quite small when my brother bought original Gold, so it's possible that I got one but didn't really even notice that. ^^' Some shiny colours are quite near to the originals. And, I have strange feeling that I caught one shiny in Diamond and put it to the PC... But I have lost the game. ._____.

That's unfortunate, Zyendaira. D8 Actually, the Piplup I mentioned is the only Legit shiny I've ever gotten by myself. I have a good number of non-legits, but they don't count. x3 My sister has alot of shinies... owo

Aha, nice Uwi. 8D My friend put an Eevee in the GTS, just a regular female, and someone offered a LEGIT Ho-oh for it. o3o
I have a Ponyta named 'Pwnyta'. xDD
Gorden: Lulz. X3 Any Pokéman can be shiny. If I do say so myself, shiny Rayquazas look awesome. O__O I want one. Ritenao.

xDD That's an awesome name, Dust. I know a dood who said he found a gold Magikarp, and it evolved into a red Gyarados. o: And, as he did for all his Pokemanz, he named it Bob and taught it Hyperbeam. xD He's a nutcase.

I once caught a shiny Goldbat in Diamond. But I forgot to save and my DS battery died on me. Now it is lost...

What is a shiny pokemon? I have both Diamond and Pearl, and on Diamond I have this strange Golbat, Instead of being blue and purple, its an ugly green and pink. Is that what shiny means? How do you get shiny pokemon?
