well, I currently have a 4 year old cairn terrier called Kizzy. She's generally well tempered and behaved though is a little excitable (crazy high pitched barking and howling with a single movement outside the window). I've always wanted to have more than one dog at a time and I'm more than sure that my mum, dad and sister all want another one too. My mum is extremely picky and stubborn and will only ever get a pug or pug cross puppy. I, loving all types of dog, am fine with this.

Here are the problems: well firstly there is a matter on money. most pedigree pugs are around £1000 each for a puppy. However this could probably be solved by getting a pug cross which are generally around £200-£500.

The problem I want your help with is ,in the event that I can convince my parents to get us a new puppy, how should we go about introducing it to my current dog.

in case it matters at all Kizzy is female and any new puppy we would get would most definately be female too.

any advice or comments?

Umm, well when you introduce them, dont make it at your house. Make it like...Somewere they havent been before. Then, take them into the house and slowly introduce them, again. I think your parents will get a puppy once they see the pug's cute face :D

Yeah, take the dogs somewhere neither one of them thinks is thier territory, and introduce them there, that's what we did with my aunts german shepard and my beagle, and they're best friends!

Yeah!  It's like with birds.  If you wanna put them both in a new cage, put them both in at the same time.  The same should apply with the dogs.  Then, neither one can get too territorial.

update:

We got Toyah yesterday and did what you suggested by introducing them at my gran's house where my first dog never really goes so wouldn't be territorial. It went okay, Kizzy growled and charged at her once or twice but the most part she avoided her. Now she's better, she still avoids her mostly but already we seem to be making progress. Man, puppies are really tiring, but so cute. :)

I usually introduce them to each other at my own house (since I live in an islamic country, dogs aren't sold here, so I go to malaysia when I get pups). I don't have to opportunity to introduce them to my older ones before bringing it home due to the fact the pup is a two hour drive away. I have only introduced pups to females. Males may get territorial and feel the puppy is a threat. I usually give them a breif introduction occompanied with food (to make sure the older ones don't put full attention on the little one), I leave the older ones outside and allow the puppy to stay inside until it is older. If your older one stays inside, let it stay in a room and make sure your older one does not go in (so the bigger one doesn't attack the pup, you'll never know). I usually only reintroduce the puppy to the other ones during mealtimes and playtime, to make sure the older ones treat the pup as a playmate and a good sign. Don't focus too much on the pup and make sure the others aren't left out.

Oh and your dog shouldn't be barking and howling. It means she's bored. So it's good that you're getting a playmate.

Feel the love man D:<
