I was able to change my avatar by completing one of Kir"s Quest and he gives you a free avatar press recieve. Then you will see some default avatars you can chose from. Mainly I choose the cupcake :D and remember to save it when you get a new one :P bye hope that helped. P.S. any other quest might work too.
