Hello!
I'm Milomouse, and I thought that I would come on here again, for a short visit <3 I haven't been on res for months and months, due to school, Christmas, family, new years, and a Romeo and Juliet production... So yeah. :3
I've decided to write a blog today because my thoughts have been constantly on summer and being outside; sadly I do not live near a beach, so I've had to make do with blow-up pools and the local waterside (which isn't that bad considering!). Oh yes, I live in Australia, so sorry to all those who are in the middle of winter right now!
Anyway, for a while now I've wanted to dye my hair. My hair is naturally a medium-dark blonde, and for summer I've wanted it to be lighter. I've never dyed my hair before, so I was quite nervous.
My dad has a younger sister who has blonde hair like me (but a bit lighter), and he told me that she used to use a product called 'Sun In'. You spray it on your hair and then sit out in the sun until it dries, leaving your hair lighter. It usually takes a few applications of it to work properly.
Well, I went on the internet and searched up reviews for this product, and then, hearing that it worked, went and bought it. But then I was worried about some of the cons I had heard; that my hair would become straw-like, orange and completely ruined - someone had written that they had had to get a pixie cut because of all the split ends they'd gotten from Sun In. So I rang up my hairdresser, and asked about it. She was like "No, no, no, do not use that, it will completely ruin your hair". So I made an appointment to go get some foils done to lighten my hair.
They looked good, but very natural and subtle. I could hardly notice they were there. I wanted more. So, I looked on the Internet again to try and find another solution.
And I found one. Lemon juice! The website told me that lemon juice naturally lightened hair, and gave you a sun-kissed look. It had ingredients and instructions on how to do it. I thought, 'Well, why not?'. I disregarded the instructions on the website and decided to make my own (on this website it said to use a tiny bit of water with the lemon juice to dilute it, and another website had said to use straight lemon juice. I was confused, so I made my own :3)
I used half a cup of water, and a quarter of a cup of lemon juice. I poured them into a spray bottle and shook it to mix it up. (it doesn't seem like much mixture, but 1. I only had a quarter cup of lemon juice with me, and 2. I didn't even use it all on my long hair, so you wouldn't want much more than that). Then I put my hair into sections and sprayed my hair until it was soaked in my lemon/water mixture. Then I went out into the sun and walked around until it was dry.
And God, my hair was brittle! I freaked out, ran inside and had a shower. I left the conditioner in for ages, and then put in leave in conditioner in after I got out. I blow dried my hair, and wow! My hair was about a shade lighter, and as soft as it was before I'd done it! I was so excited.
I'm probably going to repeat the lemon thing again in a few days, because I still want my hair a little lighter, but I've read it's not very good for your hair to do it too often, so I will wait a while.
I hope you enjoyed reading this, and if you have blonde or light brown hair, this will work for you. If you have darker hair, then it will make your hair coppery and straw-like. Well, see you all soon, and old friends should r-mail me so we can chat! (: x
