I'm seventeen, almost 18. I live in the UK.

believe that gender stereotypes are a set of beliefs that apply to males or females depending on experience and media influence, but most of all the gender roles in previous eras. These are usually characterised by the actions or responsibilities of the gender. For example roles in the household were set by the physical abilities of the gender. Women were considered weaker and so stayed home whilst the males worked. However I also believe that these stereotypes are blurred by today's society as options almost exclusively for either males OR females before now being changed to unisex options. Gender stereotypes are more often used in joke than in seriousness - it is almost non-existent in modern British society at least.

... Feel free to take bits out that aren't useful. :)
Free for karma. <3

I'm 15, nearly 16.
I think a gender stereotype for males especially is to be conforming--love sports, especially football and basketball; worship meat; want to get into girls'...yeah.
Needless to say, when a male DOESN'T fit into the stereotype, he's usually shunned by other males--and in my experiences, welcomed with females.
Being openly homosexual, I'm probably an extremely biased person when it comes to this, but I still think that those stereotypes are true.

I'm 13, but I figure this could help out anyways.  Just pretend I'm 14 or something ;o
A gender stereotype is a prejudice people have for one gender or the other.  For example, a gender stereotype against men is that they all love sports.  A stereotype against women is that they all hate sports.  That's far from true, seeing as there are many women that are huge sports fans and there are just as many men who dislike sports.
Another example is the color stereotype; pink is for girls, and blue is for boys.  This also isn't necessarily true.  I'm a girl and I've never been fond of the color pink, but I love the color blue. Some boys like pink but not blue.
Stereotypes of all kinds are generalizations.  They can't ever be true 100% of the time, and that goes for gender stereotypes, as well.
