This is definitely the thread for me. See, after years of role playing and reading classic literature instead of spark noting it, I've come to have a good feel for what's well written and what's not. I'm totally not bragging right now. But anyway, Twilight's writing style felt like it was written by an amatuer role player. The characterization was awful. A lot of the characters were either flat or far too perfect.
But it was really the author insertion that got me. Bella did not do anything. She just sat there. And she got a ton of friends. And, of course, she was surprised - she would constantly question that in the beginning. Which makes me think Stephenie probably had no friends in high schol or something. Also all of the characters either fell in love with her or otherwise completely supported everything she through at them, and pretty much were just there to serve some purpose for Bella. No one really had an agenda of their own in the book - it was all Bella.
There are so many specific examples. Like how unrealistic the way the whole Jacob is better for you, says Bella's father thing was done. But this post is getting way too long and I already made my point.
And God the last book was just a train wreck.
