You have been down too many halls to count for longer than you dare
to guess, and have, up to this point, not encountered another living soul.
That said, you receive quite a shock when you walk into the sanctuary
and come face-to-face with a grown sphinx for the first time.
"You're one of those humans who have been wandering
around here looking for eggs, aren't you?
Oh, don't worry. I can tell you're a good creature.
I wouldn't have allowed you to make it this far otherwise.
There are so few of us left that anyone willing to help raise
our young and preserve our species should be welcomed.
Please - come, tell me if any of these eggs speak to you."

You watch her place three eggs upon the usual perch,
shiny and round and remaining completely upright
despite their perfectly spherical shape.

Your attention is drawn to the golden pillow at the sphinx's paws.
A single egg rests atop the cushion, proud, glistening.
Another sits behind it, dull, seemingly having rolled onto the ground
Both are emitting a strange, faint, glowing aura, vaguely like fire,
but you feel no heat from them, despite your close range.
