A cool breeze swirls in the air as you calmly make your way along the familiar path to the Mother Tree. The frigid air tickles your nose and you stifle a snort as your creatu following you, sneeze.
Upon reaching the clearing you let out a surprised hum to see the lack of glittering ground you had grown used to over the past few months. After Ink had claimed the Mother Tree had gone into a type of hibernation, you had enjoyed the new bundles of kits that had been brought into the world thanks to you and your friends.
Some soft nudges against your leg cause you to look down, and you smile as a few said kits, now newly turned adults, prance around your feet. Their flowers sparkle with youth and you giggle as a few of them ruffle their petals at you in happiness. Before you can bend down to offer some pets, the young floxes bound away to play in the small tufts of snow that encircle the Mother Tree.
The crisp white fields fill you with a sense of calm, along with the thought of a certain guardian that should be somewhere near.
Walking up to the trunk of the Mother Tree, you jump in surprise as a mysterious blur jumps down from the branches to land right in front of you.
Blinking away the swirl of snowflakes the figure brought down with them, you gaze upon the being now standing in front of you.
Yellow and black stand stark against the snowy white background. The pearlescent petals of a water lily sit delicately along a bespeckled back, as a shimmery golden tipped tail whisks sharply through the air.
Starry yellow eyes gaze at you intensely and a confused “Ink?” falls out of your mouth before you can stop it.
The flox seems to shake with some sort of emotion and eventually turns its gaze away from you. Upon closer inspection, it becomes obvious that this flox is not Ink, and its familiar coat patterning suggests that it is a kit from one of the recent litters.
It must be the one Ink was gifted. A yellow starry eye glances at you quickly before darting away as if confirming your thoughts. Its golden furry tail curls slowly around its front paws and you can’t help but be reminded of the guardian’s own leaf tipped tail. It seems being raised by Ink has caused the young flox to develop some of their traits, how interesting.
My doma isn’t here right now if that’s who you’re looking for.
A soft childlike voice echos through your mind and you quickly let out a squeak of surprise. Definitely inherited some traits.
I think it's annoying really, but Doma says I should embrace it. Says I can use it to talk with beings all over the world, but why would I. It's not like I'm planning on going anywhere. Doma’s weird.
The childish grumpy tone makes you s*censored* and you reach a hand forward to pat the disgruntled fox. You tell them all parents are weird (you assume Doma must be a flox word for parent), but it’s only because they love you.
The bespeckled fox huffs in annoyance before shaking its head to remove your hand. Grinning at its actions you finally ask the question of where their doma, Ink is at.
Ahh, I can answer that for you!
Another cheery voice enters your mind and you turn your head around to see the familiar form of Aream.
Dear Rescreatian, it’s been quite a while has it not! I was worried as we had not seen you for quite a while. Anyways, I’m glad to see you alive and well!
Aream bounds toward you in a hurry and gently shoo’s the grumpy smaller flox behind him.
I’m surprised Kenai has welcomed you. He tends to shy away from the other floxes, so Ink was a bit worried on how he’d react when you returned.
Aream sends a look behind him and you laugh as the young flox, Kenai, lets out a small growl as he shuffles his paws.
Anyways I’m sure as you noticed a lot has changed again since you’ve been gone! The Mother Tree had a good rest these past couple of moon cycles and has thankfully absorbed most of the stray nutrients the Rose Root dug up.
Sliding your foot along the dirt confirms Aream’s statement as no glitter kicks up, and you sigh wistfully as you realize any future litters will have little chance of acquiring mutations from the nutrients.
Don’t fret Rescreatian, I’m sure you’ll be able to encounter these special traits again! Besides, too many nutrients for a long time can be toxic, you know. I swear all the minerals just made everyone jumpier, especially Ink.
Aream shivered slightly and you hum in agreement as you remember some of the floxes being hyperactive.
Oh dear, I’m getting off-topic, aren’t I! I have some great news to tell you and it also kinda explains why Ink isn’t here right now.
You motion for the flox to continue and his tail wags in appreciation. You hide a smile as Kenai has to move his head to avoid being smacked by it.
My Master has decided to take a break from researching the Rare Mother Tree he found and has made the journey to come and visit us. He brought along quite a few rare objects, so once he gets here I’m sure you’ll be excited to see his wares.
You tell Aream that’s great but question said floxes whereabouts.
Ooh yes, oops. When my Master arrived, Ink insisted on showing him around the area, and they’ve actually been gone for a couple of days now. They had some... weird air between them so I didn’t want to intrude on their time together.
Aream’s confused face causes you to raise an eyebrow and a gagging sound from Kenai makes you even more interested. Weird air huh?
Aren't you going to tell them about Loseter and the eggs?
Loseter?Lose...Lob...AHHH yes, your right! But... their name isn’t Loseter, Kenai.
So? They didn’t give us a name when they arrived, so I went ahead and gave them one. I think it's fitting given how lazy they are. They don’t deserve to have such a rare flower attached to them!
Aream shoots Kenai a look and the young flox lets out a brief ‘Whatever’ before standing up and launching himself into the lower branches of the Mother Tree.
That child is very smart for his age but his attitude is just as bad as Ink’s, maybe even worse. At first, I thought I would have to deal with another excitable flox, but he did a complete 180 and turned out completely opposite. Even his littermate refuses to play with him and his attitude.
Aream lets out a floxy sigh and returns his gaze to you.
I’m sure given time he’ll warm up to everyone, but I worry about the influence he’s gotten from Ink.
A rustle of leaves above you lets you know said flox is listening in and a quick tail flick from Aream lets you know that he does too.
Atlas, Kenai was right to remind me about our other newest visitor and the precious eggs they brought with them. Like I mentioned before my Master took the time to travel all the way here to introduce himself along with some more of his wares. However, he didn’t make the journey alone!
Aream looks to the left which causes you to follow their gaze, and you gasp in surprise to see an unfamiliar yellow flox lazing about a few meters away on one of the Mother Tree’s roots.
One of the lone floxes loitering about the Rare Mother Tree decided to come along with my Master in hopes of finding a new home! They're a bit lazy, I must admit, but their coat patterning and flower type are quite unique.
The yellow flox’s tail whips in response to Aream’s statement and you hum in surprise upon noticing that it’s actually their flowers and not a tail at all.
Additionally, my Master decided to bring along a few more Rare Eggs as well!
Aream tilts his head to a large pile of eggs resting comfortably in a leaf nest. The amount baffles you, and you slowly creep forward to observe the numerous eggs laying peacefully in the nest.
Actually, before they went off on their litter escapade, my Master managed to convince Ink to pick a couple more Regular Eggs and Rose Root Eggs before they left, in hopes of enticing you back! This is why there are so many eggs.
Aream lets out a chitter of flox laughter at your amazed ex
pression and curls his forepaws underneath his stomach for warmth.
I’m sure you have a lot to think about right now, so go ahead and take your time. I’m not sure when Ink and my Master will return, but I’ll be here to help you where I can.
