Lorethan-sepia Narwi My tale has not always been a happy one so if you please, sit down and listen to what I've got to say.
I was born in the frigid waters near the Frozen Vale. We lived in blissful ignorance of humans, believing that they would never come for us. In December 2010, our lives were changed forever.
I had left early with my parents on a trip to the sea beneath our sea. It is said that the Other Sea had waters so polluted that it could drown a narwi. The sea saw so little light that the plants growing there were as poisonous as the waters.
My mother had instructed me to hold my breath. By the end of the tour, my father had to carry me out as I was unconscious. That was when They struck.
A bird as black as the night circled my family and a net was thrown over our bodies. In the confusion, I was separated from my parents. I was kept in a pen with hundreds of other narwi from my tribe. Those who were there described the capture as devastating. Rough hands had pushed the females out of their nests and stolen their eggs. Crates and crates of eggs were thrown carelessly on the ship.
For many days, I searched for my parents, hoping to be reunited. By the time we sailed into a port, I had lost all hope. The Rough Hands sorted us out by colour. I was one of the sepias. One of the not so good looking colours. I knew there and then that i would never get a home.
Slowly, my pen-mates died of misery and I was the only one left. Until that day when I was picked up by a human and tucked into a fleece blanket. I had a home.
So thank you for giving me a home when I had no home, for giving me all the love
