New arrivals!

coco by smoltairpoinsettia by smoltairsnowflake by smoltair

Coco, Poinsettia, and Snowflake, some rather festive looking flygers, have arrived at the research centre just shy of Christmas. Eager and generous, Death has already donated on behalf of BoredDragon in exchange for Snowflake. Coco and Poinsettia are both still available. The minimum donation for a flyger is 30 mil, and if you have claimed one of last week's, you may not claim one of these.

This lovely group of flygers was designed by Kina!

Three unexpected arrivals at the research centre! Sprinkle, Turquoise, and Firecracker have arrived on the birthday of our head researcher! The minimum donation for a flyger is 30 mil, and if you have claimed or been given a flyger from the last group, you may not claim one of these three. Coco will remain available along with the new arrivals until next week.

It rarely snows near the flygers' habitat, but when it does Snowflake is the first to dive into the fluffy piles and play. There are few things he loves as much as snow and ice, and it's happy coincidence that his markings resemble snowflakes. His favourite things about snow are that every flake is unique and beautiful, and the way is sparkles at night when the moon shines down.

When they aren't hunting and patroling their territory, flygers are very playful. One activity they particularly enjoy is referred to as "sky-dancing". It was previously believed that these intricate dances were exclusively mating rituals, but since establishing contact with Lapis and his colony it has been revealed that this is not the case. In sky-dancing, two or more flygers will flutter around each other in synchronized patterns, bouncing through clouds and at times landing to continue the dance on the ground. While this activity is in fact done between mates it is also practiced among friends and family as well, and is an experience that brings members of a colony closer together. Poinsettia loves sky-dancing, and hopes to share its unique beauty with humans upon her adoption.

Firecracker is full of spunk and always ready to have a good time. When his friends are feeling down, he does everything he can to lift their spirits. He loves to decorate his den with bright, colourful things and hopes he will find a human companion who shares his love of fun and happiness.

Contrary to what is known for many animals, chocolate is not poisonous to flygers. This was discovered when this particularly sneaky flyger stole a chocolate bar from a researcher and did not show signs of sickness after eating it. It was known that flygers enjoy sweeter foods like fruits already, but no one suspected that they would be able to safely consume chocolate given how poisonous it is to other mammals. Coco was the first to discover how tasty chocolate is, and hopes that whoever adopts them will allow them to have some from time to time.

Sprinkle's colourful spots are an interesting variation from the typical striped patterning that flygers have. They look like someone has shaken a cup of rainbow sprinkles all over them, which is likely how they got their name. Coincidentally, Sprinkle has developed a fascination with cooking and baking since arriving at the research centre, and hopes to be chosen by someone who can teach them more about it.

The Wait is Over!

lapis

"Greetings. I have not been to the research centre in some time, but am thrilled at how successful your efforts have been in raising money to restore and preserve our home. Your generosity is much appreciated and it is good to see as more flygers join human colonies, correct knowledge about our species has begun to circulate more.

I have chosen to make the journey here today because I have an announcement regarding the welfare of my colony and our habitat. Two weeks ago, a small group of flygers who were struggling to survive outside of the forest where we are meant to live arrived in our territory and I was needed to establish relations with their leader, Astra. We do not own the entire forest, and as more of it is renewed there is more and more space for us to prosper. Astra's colony wanted to remain separate from ours, and so they now reside within this forest and may establish communication with the researchers as they recover from their journey. You may see a representative from them soon. Thank you once more for your continued support."

Turquoise has returned to the flyger colony and may come back sometime later.

OOC Update:

Apologies for the long wait, flygers should be back on a more steady schedule now. I've been struggling with my mental health killing all motivation to create new art, but I'm starting to feel better now and am going to get this thread back up and running soon!

The light-coloured flyger seems quite serene as it approaches you.

This rather peaceful flyger is always up before the sun, so he can watch the sunrise from up in the clouds. His pale blue and white coat blends right in with the sky, and his light golden feathers make him appear as though he himself is a beam of sunlight made solid as he flies. Dawn is a very active flyger as well, so it is advised to whoever brings him home that they expect him to be up and about quite early in the day.

shamrock by smoltair
This bright green flyger is completely silent as he steps towards you, though the look on his face displays his excitement.

Shamrock's green coat blends easily into the dense bamboo, making him an effective scout for flyger hunting parties and patrols. His movements are virtually silent; even the flap of his wings produces almost no noise. While certainly one of their best, he is not the only member of his colony skilled in this way, so his absence would not cause them any harm. After some debate, he decided to volunteer for the donor incentive program.

After a long absence, the flygers have finally arrived. Two previous volunteers have returned, to see if they have better luck with finding a new home this time around.
