RoseBlade
Listen, I don't have much time, but I'll tell you as much as I can. If you're reading this, you're already in danger. Read this story then leave it where were you found it because if THEY found out that you know the truth, they'll kill you.
When I worked for the agency under the direction of Kir, I was simply known as Agent 290. Now, I am known as RoseBlade. Is this my true name? No. I cannot tell you my true name because even I don't know what it is.
I was taken from my home when I was a mere hatchling, innocent of all crimes. Now my heart is heavy with the weight of thousands of lives stolen by my own hooves. I am not a murderer. I never wanted to be a murderer. Nor did I want to be an a.ssasin. But when Kir speaks, everyone must obey...or die.
I was bred to be like this. A stealthy thief with no emotions...or at least I was supposed to have no emotions. Kir didn't know it but everytime I took a child from his or her family, I felt a tugging at my heart. I wanted a family. I didn't want this life!
For many years, I served Kir and his cold-hearted minions. I told myself that one day, I would be free from Kir's clutches forever. I guess you could say I made a mask for myself.
A cruel, emotionless outside revealing none of my actual feelings. While I wept silent tears on the inside, my "other self" showed none of my feelings of helplessness.
I cannot say that Kir was a cruel master. He did not yell nor did he torture us, but he had an air of finalty. Then there was that room. The one that said, "Security Only". I had a feeling that it wasn't JUST the security creatu who went in and out. I'd seen some of my fellow agents look around cautiously before slipping inside returning hours later looking slightly different. As if something inside that room scared them so much that they changed.
Many times I questioned them but never got a response. They would simply go about doing their work in a robotic way. Rarely did I ever see Kir, but if - no- when I saw Kir, I questioned him about it.
" Kir..master," I would say. "What's in the Security Room?"
" Didn't I tell you to call me 'father', RoseBlade? Ah never mind. Just focus on your job son. I will tell you everything when the time is right."
And with that, Kir would walk away, leaving me to grind my teeth angrily. Kir had "adopted" me and treated me like a son. But it wasn't right.
Fathers don't refuse their children's pleas to be free. So that was how it was for a year. Creatu going in the Security Room and coming out disoriented. By now, nearly half the agency was like that. Mindless fools that carried out Kir's orders without questions. It was disgusting to look at.
One day, Kir's lieutenant, Agent 110 a.ssigned me to capture a female meragon. Kir never made me capture one of my own kind before. This must have been Agent 110's idea.
Agent 110 has always envied how Kir treated me like a son. He himself had no family and was found in an alley huddled up in a cardboard box. Ever since, he became a bully and loved to annoy everyone. He knew how much I hated my job and always pestered me about it.
I knew better than to argue with the lieutenant. Reluctantly, I headed out. The meragon lived in the district the agency calls "The Labryinth". The Labryinth was made of homes designed so that it resembled a maze. Only the creatu living in the Labryinth knew how to get around. Without a guide, one could enter in the North end and wander out a couple months later in the South end. Lucky for me, the agency provided me with a map of the Labryinth.
Taking a deep breath, I entered the eerily silent town. It was as if the meragons knew I was coming. Suddenly there was a flash of colour. The meragon ducked behind a building and disappeared.
"Hey!" I called. "Wait! I just want to talk to you!"
"Well I don't want to talk to you!" came the response.
"Wait! I only want to know where I can find Angali!" I called out. Were all the inhabitants of the Labryinth this unfriendly? There was a pause. I thought the meragon had left but a sneering voice spoke up.
"What do you want with my daughter? Think you're good enough for her? Well you're not! Go away!" With that, the voice faded away. But I was ready. Silently, I stalked after the rude meragon. I thought I had trained enough to keep up with even the fastest ezahni (believe me, they are FAST) but this meragon was gone in a bl.ink of an eye.
Fortunatly, the ground was soft enough for the meragon to leave footprints. Unaware of any danger, I followed them to te heart of the Labryinth. I should have known something was wrong. After all, what meragon would leave footprints behind unless they were setting a trap up?
The gathering of meragons surrounded me and tied me up. Some of them looked suspiciously at me while others looked disgusted to see one of their own kind working for Kir.
"Stranger. Why do you want my daughter?" a meragon that looked as old as the sky spoke up.
I gulped. This was getting awkward. "My master wishes to meet Angali."
The meragon smirked and pushed a young meragon towards me. "Take her. But I hope you feel guilty of robbing an old creatu of his pride and joy."
Angali stepped forward hesitantly but as we left, she never looked back. Instead, she stared silently ahead, leading the way out of the Labryinth. Finally, she looked back at me.
"Why?"
"Huh?" This was the first time I heard her talk.
"Why do you do this? Doesn't it make you feel guilty?" she growled.
I was speechless. No one had ever asked me. Feeling uncomfortable, I shrugged unhappily. I really didn't want Kir to have this courageous meragon. She deserved better.
"Well well. Look who we have here." the door slid open and Agent 110 swaggered out. "Guess you got her. Hope she didn't give you any trouble. Kir doesn't want her to be sent off like the rest. He plans to make her an agent."
I growled under my breath. I doubted Angali would ever do the job. She was too ignorant and believed in only doing good things. In other words, I thought she was amazing. I was right. Angali tossed her head and sneered at Agent 110.
"I'll never work for Kir. You can try to make me, but you won't succeed."
Agent 110 shrugged and turned his back to us. "We'll see about that."
I guided Angali to her room. I was determined not to let Kir get his hands on Angali. Tonight, I would escape with her.
~Midnight~
The door creaked as I opened it. I stiffened and listened for any hint that an agent might have heard. Only the gentle sound of snoring drifted down the hall. With a sigh of relief, I slipped out of my room.
Moving ever so slowly, I inserted the key to Angali's room and pushed the door open. She was sitting by the window, waiting quietly for me.
"Ready?" I whispered. Angali nodded solemly. Without a word, we slipped into the deserted hallway. A dark blob moved in the corner. The creatu stepped into the light and we braced ourselves.
"Well look what we have here. Kir's adopted son stealing away with the new agent, huh?" Agent 110 drawled. "This is a bad offense! I have to report you to Kir himself. Looks like you're getting your wish, Agent 290. We're going in the security room."
I shivered. Perhaps a couple months back I would have been jumping around in excitement but now with Angali's life in my hands, I just wanted to run away. As Agent 110 pushed open the door, a blast of icy air whooshed out and the sound of creatus in pain filled the hallway. Angali cringed and I gasped at what I saw.
Hundred of tanks filled with a greasy liquid were lined up against the wall. Inside each tank was a creatu that the agents had stolen. After one minute, a clonde of the creatu crawled out of the other opening in the tanks and the original creatu was let out. The clones moved roboticly and gazed around with glazed eyes. So this is what they were doing inside the Security Room.
Kir rounded the corner and faced us. Disappointment showed in his eyes but his face was ex.pressionless. "Agent 290, I would like to show you something.
" Kir whistled and a rose meragon stepped beside him. I was gazing at a reflection of me...except it wasn't a reflection. It was me.
"We did this when you were young. You probably don't remember anything," Kir murmured. "Even then we knew you were special. You fought and kicked all the way into the tank. Even when you were in the tank, you kicked at the walls and tried to get out. If you still want to leave after seeing this, then leave."
Angali inched away from Kir then bolted out of the room. Without a glance back, I followed her. As I left, I heard the lieutenant say, "Kir, you're just gonna let them go?!" Kir sighed but didn't say anything else. Keeping my eyes ahead, I led Angali to the entrance. With a happy shout, we burst outside.
Angali closed her eyes and breathed, "Free." The sky was filled with hundreds of stars and the moon shone like a beacon, welcoming me to my true home.
