Project: Spider-Verse
In all honesty, I have never been a superhero fan. Comics had never been my thing. The superhero movies family and friends urged me to watch, while fine, just didn’t excite me. I had no intention on ever watching the Spider-Verse movies, but the first one was playing at an event and with nothing better to do, I watched it. I was instantly hooked. Visually, it was absolutely stunning. I loved how bright and colorful it was, rather than the dark and muddy look I had grown used to in other superhero movies. And it was fun! Each character had their own charm, even if I didn’t personally like them. The mixture of different styles was so fun, and the story absolutely intrigued me. I went from having no interest in heroes to cheering Miles on in no time. And when the movie ended? The wait for the sequel felt impossibly long.Five years later, Across The Spider-Verse was finally released. I was thrilled to hear that Miles was back on screen, and went with my sister and a friend to see it. Honestly, I didn’t think anything could ever top ITSV for me, but I was so wrong. ATSV was so good that ITSV pales in comparison, not at all because it is a bad movie, but simply because ATSV did everything so well. I felt every emotion over the course of that film. Getting to see more of the multiverse was amazing, and the new characters introduced were extraordinary. I won’t go into details here, but as much as I adored Miles, Hobie absolutely stole the show for me this time.
In the time since seeing the movie in theatres, I’ve been absolutely obsessed. It’s absolutely one of the strongest hyperfixations I have ever had. I cannot get enough of it. I don’t even have the words for how much this series means to me. I absolutely adore the love and care put into every little detail, especially so for their characters of colors. I love seeing characters who are just cool, regardless of their race, and I love what the Spider-Verse team has done with Miles and Hobie in particular.With my recent return to Rescreatu, I’ve been having a ton of fun fulfilling old goals and making new ones. I started decorating pet pages as a way to pass the time and feel a little more connected to my creatu. And as I cleaned out all my old creatu I was no longer attached to, I started bringing a lot more in, with the intention to have a collection with more meaning.
I stumbled across a Drachid in the forest, and named him HobieBrown - a silly joke, naming a spider after my favorite Spider-Man. But when looking at dye kits, I saw the orchid drachid, and thought it matched Earth-42’s color scheme perfectly. So my next drachid was named accordingly. Then I realized an orchid jahra would suit The Prowler perfectly, and after a quick confirmation that the name was free, I did that. And I couldn’t have the Prowler without Miles…and so on and so on. Pretty soon that throwaway name became a bunch of pet concepts, and so Project: Spider-Verse was born. A fun little virtual tribute to a series that is changing my life in the best of ways ♡
